Six Reasons Your Teen Might Need Huntington this School Year
Six Reasons Your Teen Might Need Huntington this School Year For some students, learning doesnt come easy. School and homework are daily frustrations and a major source of stress at home. And the further these students get in the school year, the worse the problems become. Sound familiar? It might be time to get help for your student. Here are six reasons your teen might need Huntington this year: To pinpoint and correct problems Taking a broad-brush approach to fixing school issues will not be effective long term. At Huntington, we dont believe in one-size-fits-all tutoring. All programs are customized to meet the unique needs of each student. Our teachers start by pinpointing teens precise areas of weakness so that we can develop programs that correct those areas. To close the skill gaps Your teen brings home a bad test grade or poor report card, but whats really going on? There are likely many contributors, but skill gaps are a common issue we see at Huntington. Skill gaps occur when teens are missing important knowledge that they need to progress in a subject. For example, geometry problems will prove difficult for a teen who still struggles with basic algebra and other skills reaching back to middle school. We identify these gaps through an Academic Evaluation, then build an individualized learning program. To facilitate an attitude change When school isnt going well, many students become pessimistic about learning altogether. Huntingtons primary goal is to help children make substantial gains in school, but our learning programs are about more than that. Our teachers will identify the root cause of your teens learning difficulties and tackle them one by one. The more we guide your teen toward success, the better she feelsand the faster she lets go of those negative emotions. With college on the horizon, bolstering this type of persistence and independence as a learner is very important. To give your teen a boost in motivation All children have periods in school where they lose steam temporarily, but if your teen has seemed less and less engaged in school for a while, tutoring can make a big difference. For some, the lack of motivation stems from frustration and embarrassment. Its easier to give up than continue to fail. For others, homework that is too difficultbecause they lack the skills to complete itseems pointless. No matter the source of the problem, Huntington can help. As your teen gears up for college-level academics, well help your teen become more engaged and motivated to learn and push him or herself. To help your teen feel happy again When school is challenging, its very easy for teens to experience a range of emotions. Some become highly self-critical and lose self-esteem, while others shut down completely. A tutoring program tailored to your teens needs can transform him for the better into a confident, enthusiastic student who is eager to learn and eager to go on to college. To set your teen on the path to lifelong success You might think of tutoring as a short-term fix, but the benefits your teen will gain in the Huntington program will last a lifetimeinto college and beyond. Your teen will emerge as a more optimistic student who perseveres when faced with any challenge and isnt afraid to self-advocate. That alone is worth the investment. If last school year was difficult for your teen or you simply want to help your teen get off to a great start this year as college nears, call Huntington at 1-800 CAN LEARN. We help students of all ages fulfill their potential in school and life and can do the same for your teen.

Make After School Learning Social With These 5 Tips
Make After School Learning Social With These 5 Tips 5 Ways to Make After School Learning Social A lot of younger students begin to dislike schoolwork because it takes them away from socializing with their friends. Many students begin to view studying as something they have to do by themselves while sitting at a desk in their study room and wish they could be outside playing with classmates and neighbors. However, afterschool academics can be a fun and social activity as long as there is enough organization to make sure that ample learning takes place. Kids have a ton of structure in the classroom but may still need to work on a healthy balance between education and socialization during afterschool learning. 1. Form a neighborhood study group One thing parents can do is form a neighborhood study group. Its not necessary for each kid to be working on the same assignment or even be in the same class but just that they have a chance to learn socially. Concepts such as reading comprehension, writing, and mathematics are all universal so kids can work on learning these skills together. They can work with a support specialist or get help from a parent in order to stay organized and progress forward. Even getting kids together to participate in an informal field trip to a local museum or learning center can be a great way to put the social element back into learning. 2. Participate in community sports activities Community sports activities offer a great opportunity for kids to be social. Physical education is a type of learning and can teach kids discipline, teamwork, and build their self-esteem when done properly. Kids who participate in a more informal type of sports activity have the opportunity to try new things and see what really serves as a good fit. Students can go to their local family gym and participate in classes in a safe and welcoming environment or they can sign up to be on a local soccer team or take swimming lessons. The important thing is that they get to try something new in a supportive and social environment. 3. Utilize child care that supports academics Another great way for kids to be social while learning is to attend childcare or afterschool care that really focuses on academics. Some childcare centers will offer kids academic support and give them the opportunity to work with an educator who can help them get started on their homework or even understand difficult concepts that were brought up in the classroom. Childcare centers will always be social because there are lots of kids of all different ages spending time in this environment. Its important for kids to be able to get along with others of their own age but also to know how to interact with children a few years younger or older. 4. Learn at an art studio Afterschool art classes are a fantastic way for kids to socialize in a positive educational environment. Most art studios have group projects or offer a situation in which kids are allowed to interact and talk with each other because it doesnt disrupt the activity like it might in the classroom environment. Hands-on activities such as ceramics and painting definitely encourage kids to socialize and experience learning with others. 5. Participate in small group tutoring When it comes to really difficult and specific academic concepts, its best for students to learn one-on-one with a private tutor. However, when kids just need to work on general concepts or stay organized, they can benefit from small group tutoring. Many tutors will come to the home and work with three to five kids at once, allowing students to improve academically but also enjoy time with friends and learn how to work in a group. Our private tutors are great one-on-one, and will help your student develop both educational and social skills. Call TutorNerds today for more information on our private San Diego academic tutoring. Nazarbayev Intellectual School

Taking Political Action at the Grocery Store
Taking Political Action at the Grocery Store Source: Juliasmath.com I donât get it. How does my quick trip for milk and toilet paper have anything to do with politics? Well unfortunately for us middle class citizens, money is a synonym for power here in the land of the free. Many wealthy business owners take the reigns on political campaigns by playing expensive roles in the governmental game. Creepily enough, we are supporting these executives indirectly and often without knowing. In small bits, we fiscally contribute to their capital capacity in the salary sword fight that is our campaign process. The most widely known example of this operation is the Koch Brothers. This particular duo and many other companies with powerful executives are behind a number of products that we procure. A few useful websites (links placed below) illustrate retail industries and their corresponding political affiliations and contributions. Unfortunately, it can be a bit distasteful to correlate the often-ignored topic of politics to the simple undertakings and pleasures in our lives. Starbucks and Build-A-Bear executives voted blue in the 2008 election while Dominoâs and Chevron voted red. Is a loyal pumpkin spice latte drinker endorsing the political philosophy of the Starbucks main man? That is up to you to decide. Research will lead you to discover how much and in what ways your favorite product executives participate. At the end of the day we live in a society where ignorance is bliss. We avoid hot political topics because they demand awareness and realization. We prefer to ignore unfortunate truths if it requires too much personal effort. A good first step is enlightenment. Let us at least recognize the irony in a radical liberal buying Angel Soft toilet paper (a Koch Brother product) in bulk. We may not have the fiscal power of millionaire executives but we can use cognitive power to combat their covert affairs. http://www.goodguide.com/contributions http://retailindustry.about.com/od/famousretailers/a/retailpolitics.htm
Choosing a Tutor in Accounting Online
Choosing a Tutor in Accounting OnlineWhen it comes to choosing a tutor in accounting, you need to look for one that is credible and will provide you with the best guidance possible. The first thing you want to do is to make sure that you find someone who is experienced in working with students who are looking to learn more about accounting. You also want to make sure that the tutor you hire has high academic ratings from a college or university and has excellent references.Make sure that the tutor you hire has a certification in accounting or some other field that includes working with students who have a high school education or less. In fact, if you have at least a bachelor's degree, you may be able to get the job done without the need for an additional qualification. If you're unsure about whether the tutor you are considering is an authentic teacher, consider checking out their credentials with the Better Business Bureau. Otherwise, ask the person interviewing you about their rec ommendations. It's also a good idea to find out whether the tutor you are thinking of hiring is familiar with accounting software and a computer. If they are unfamiliar with either, they may not be able to teach accounting online effectively. Another aspect of online learning that you'll want to pay attention to is how the tutor presents their lessons.A good teacher should be clear and concise in their explanation of the material they are teaching. The questions and other aspects of the lesson should be easy to understand, as well. They should be clear about what's expected of students, as well. Find out what kind of grading system the teacher uses and how much time is spent reviewing the lesson before it is considered finished.Your tutor should have references that you can use in case of a problem. If they aren't, you should find out why and see if they can provide you with evidence of their credibility. It's also a good idea to find out what kind of experience the tutorhas in deali ng with students and how long they've been teaching accounting. In addition to interviewing your tutor, make sure that they are willing to travel to your location to meet with you. As it may be a requirement for the job, make sure that they are flexible enough to accommodate you when it comes to time away from their office. You want someone who can assist you in your classes and provide you with clear instructions so that you can learn more about accounting online and get your financial records in order.Make sure that the tutor you are considering hiring has adequate credentials and is a good teacher, because it will make the process of learning online much easier. After all, you won't have to worry about your finances and expenses being forgotten about because you just needed a little guidance when it comes to accounting.
The Best Way to Find A Varsity Tutor For Varsity Tutors
The Best Way to Find A Varsity Tutor For Varsity TutorsIf you want to find out what it takes to be a Varsity Tutor, you may be wondering if it is possible to become one yourself. There are some guides that have been written about the process, but if you don't have enough knowledge to help you be successful at the tutoring field, there are some things that you can do to prepare yourself for the hard work. As long as you plan on earning a college degree in the future, finding a tutoring career will be a great way to get the education that you need.Perhaps the best part of this is that you will be able to make the most of your time studying English. Not everyone that is serious about this field has the time to spare to go out and hunt down all the tutors they need. Some of them are already working full-time and can only do so much to find someone they can trust. That is why it is important to find a program that provides classes with a tutor that is willing to help out those that are no t able to help themselves. Most of the time this will pay off because you will be learning and becoming more knowledgeable than you would be if you were working alone. One other thing that you need to think about is how much you want to work out to become a Varsity Tutor. Many people that are just starting out may look into a variety of ways to earn extra money while they learn their craft. However, if you feel that your dream is just a little bit too far out there, there are plenty of different jobs that you can look into. Most of these jobs are going to be in fields like health care, education, or even careers that include computers. If you want to go into a nursing career, for example, you can consider the opportunities available in the fields of nursing. If you have a desire to be a teacher, there are even careers in public schools. These may not be the best options for everyone, but you will likely find that they do offer a great deal of flexibility for those that do have a speci fic goal in mind.Another option for anyone who wants to work toward being a Varsity Tutor is to go into the high school programs that have been set up to make teaching skills more accessible to young people. By teaching young students in this way, you can be in charge of a very valuable skill that they can use on the job. Your job will be to interact with your students and make sure that they understand what they are expected to do. Even if they don't know what they are supposed to do, you will still be able to make sure that they know what they should not do.It is never too late to get a graduate degree, and you should always look into getting a graduate degree in English if you really want to make it in this field. You may also want to consider getting a Master's in English or even a Master's in Education. There are many reasons why someone would like to pursue a Masters in this field, but when you combine it with the tuition that comes with it, it makes a great choice. The fact t hat you can earn it from a field that you are passionate about and is something that you are sure to enjoy also helps make it worth it.If you love to work with children, it may be something that you want to consider when you first start your new challenge. Being a Varsity Tutor gives you an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others that you will never have the chance to see otherwise.

But what happens when you let your guard down, maybe youâve had a bit too much to drink or are consumed by strong emotions, and you have access to a social media account?Keep the Personal, Private.Whereas in the past a rant was just that, these days that same rant could be broadcast to the whole world with just a tap of the finger. It is as such that a moment of madness can come back to haunt you in the future; an unpopular opinion can land you in hot water with potential employers; a secret shared can be used against you at a later date. With this in mind, we have to be careful what we post to social media and ensure that weâre not tempted to press publish on something which could be potentially damaging to us at another point in time. This also goes for interaction s we have with friends on social media. While you may think this form of messaging is between just you and them, a log of the text will be kept and so itâs best not to discuss really personal matters or credit card information for example. Especially since all it would take is your Facebook (or other social media platform) account to be hacked, and that information is no longer secure.Family MattersSomething that a lot of people donât think twice about, posting pictures and videos of family, or close friends, can be dangerous. The more clear a picture you provide through social media as to your friends, family, and personal life, the more information you are giving away to people who could use it to harm you. While this is not an especially likely scenario, and most people post daily content involving friends and family, there are some things to bear in mind when posting this type of content.First, try to avoid posting too much multimedia content of your children. While your frien ds and family love and appreciate the updates, if this content gets in the wrong hands, it could cause a lot of pain and distress. Especially since the photos and videos will be in a public forum if you decide to post them on social media. One way to secure this type of content is to make sure that when you post or publish it, you set your privacy settings so that only friends or family will be able to view it.Thereâs also the notion that your child or children might not appreciate certain content being made publicly available, at least when they grow up. This is an issue that should be discussed within the family, and be given some real thought.Thereâs a thoughtful article by Forbes on the issue of âsharentingâ, which is definitely worth a read. The Dangers of AnonymityThe last way in which we can succumb to the dark side of social media is through anonymity.Anonymity is a perfectly valid way to have an online presence, should for whatever reason you prefer to keep your ident ity secret. However, for some, anonymity is a mask to hide behind. The prevalence of internet âtrollsâ is evidence of this. Unless you have a lot of followers, you might not have encountered this before, but if you do, Iâm sure youâve been on the receiving end of some unwarranted and unsolicited criticism at one time or another. All you have to do is go on a celebrityâs social media feed, check the comments under an innocent post, and youâll understand how toxic the culture of internet âtrollsâ can be.The lack of accountability provided by anonymity can be dangerous and gives people a way of criticising relentlessly without showing themselves or revealing their true identity.Even people in respected professions can engage in this type of behaviour, given such anonymity and free reign to express their unsolicited opinions without repercussions. As a result, itâs worth thinking before you post a response to something someone said, and ask yourself whether you would say that to them in person. The Power of Passwords Use a series of letters and numbers for a strong password.Something that a lot of people can take for granted, a password you create should be more complex than just the first thing that comes to mind.Given how simple it can be for hackers to figure out your password, and subsequently get hold of your personal details, your best bet to keep yourself safe is password-protecting your social media accounts the right way.Particularly when considering phone safety, passwords are crucial. The Stronger, the BetterThe definition of a strong, unique password, is one which contains a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Itâs also ideally quite long. The reason for having such a password is simple: it makes it much harder for hackers to figure out.Once someone gets hold of your password, they wonât just get access to that account either, they can probably get into other accounts you have too, assuming you have the same password for different accounts. That brings me to the second reason itâ s important to have a strong, unique password, since if each of your accounts has a unique password, hackers wonât be able to cause a domino effect with your other accounts falling under their control.Something which came to my attention recently is the idea of âbrute forcingâ. This refers to the automated process of trying every word in the dictionary until coming up with your password. A scary thought indeed, being aware of such a technique should make all of us want to make our password something complex, and nonsensical.Double UpAnother thing you should probably do if you havenât already is make sure the device you use social media on is password-protected itself.Having a strong password for your social media account is all well and good, but if you donât have a password on your phone or tablet and you leave it on the table for a moment, youâre essentially leaving the keys to the door of your personal life on the table.Of course, it goes without saying that the passw ords for your accounts and your device should be different too, to make it as hard to crack as possible.Be Sceptical Keep an eye open for social media traps.Scepticism is always a good thing when it comes to social media safety. One misclick or lack of judgement could start a ripple effect which could have negative repercussions.Stranger DangerJust as youâre taught as a child, strangers on the internet should in most cases be avoided, especially when it comes to social media.Cyber bullying is a dangerous reality if you arenât careful online. If somebody you donât know reaches out to you or sends you a friend request, then you should take a moment before responding or accepting. While adding someone you donât know probably wonât be the end of the world, you never know who it is and what their intentions are. Especially if you have private information on your social media account, itâs best to exercise caution when it comes to people you donât know.Beware of LinksInternet safety 101: links can be deceptive. They are so easy to click but can cause huge damage to your device, or lead to malw are that could compromise your personal data. For the most part, clicking links from articles and trusted sources is fine, but once you enter certain parts of the internet you might be more likely to run into an undesirable, misleading link. These links are often found in places where you might be caught with your guard down, so itâs best to avoid clicking links when youâre not on a secure, trusted website.Yet, thatâs not the biggest concern when it comes to links. Funnily enough, when it comes to dodgy links, your friends are the enemy. What I mean by that is you would never expect your friends to send you a dodgy link through social media, and Iâm sure they wouldnât, but sometimes they do. Hackers gain access to social media accounts all the time, and when they do, they often try to catch people out by posing as their friend and sending a link with an innocent-sounding message like âcheck out this funny video!â.The best way to avoid this is to wonder to yourself if the text that accompanies the link is something your friend would typically say to you. Also consider how likely it is that they would send you a link out of the blue with some robotic-sounding line before clicking it.To find out more about staying safe online, check out our comprehensive guide on the topic.
